The A-Z Survey

AtoZsurvey-1017x1024

I love surveys – let’s be real, who doesn’t? So when I saw this incredible book-related survey from The Perpetual Page Turner, it was inevitable that I get involved.

Here goes:

Author you’ve read the most books from:

J.K. Rowling, duh. Seven book series will always win this one.

Best Sequel Ever:

This year, it has to be World After by Susan EE, I almost screamed when I realised the third book wasn’t out yet.

Currently Reading:

Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hob (re-read from my teenage years).

Drink of Choice While Reading:

Green tea, I devour it, especially whilst reading. It’s an anti-oxidant you know!

Ereader or Physical Book?

I work in digital publishing, so I should really say e-book. But physical books are still the winners for me … unless it’s over 500 pages and I can’t be bothered to lug it around, then e-readers win.

Fictional Character You Probably Would Have Actually Dated In High School:

Cadvan from The Gift, by Alison Croggon. Even though he would have been much older than me in school.

Glad You Gave This Book A Chance:

1984 by George Orwell, now easily a favourite book and author of mine

Hidden Gem Book:

Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman

Important Moment in your Reading Life:

The first time my best friend from school lent me a book (we were 13); my family didn’t really buy books and I was never sure of what to read in the library. She opened up the world of reading and I’ve been addicted ever since (thanks Cami!). 13 years later and she’s still lending me books.

Just Finished:

Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons

Kinds of Books You Won’t Read:

I try not to discriminate against genres, but I generally don’t read a book that I could have watched a film of (so chick lit, sci-fi and some crime novels are out). Saying this, I will still give them a go if they’ve been recommended.

Longest Book You’ve Read:

A Clash of Kings – George R.R. Martin (911 pages!)

Major book hangover because of:

Song of Achilles – Madeline Miller. It made me cry. So much.

Number of Bookcases You Own:

One really tall bookshelf at home; a pile of books by my bed; and a number of piles at work.

One Book You Have Read Multiple Times:

Easy. The Hobbit – J.R.R. Tolkien. I ready it pretty much every year.

Preferred Place To Read:

In my reading chair (it’s so pretty – see!). Also in bed. Generally anywhere that I can curl up with a book.

Quote that inspires you/gives you all the feels from a book you’ve read:

There are too many to recall – latest quote is:
“I have hated words and I have loved them, and I hope I have made them right.”
The Book Thief – Mark Zusak

Reading Regret:

I regret not having read the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan – there’s 14 books and I doubt I’ll get through them now.

Series You Started And Need To Finish (all books are out in series):

Game of Thrones, I stopped after book 3 and really need to get back into it.

Three of your All-Time Favorite Books:

Mossflower – Brian Jaques, Alanna: the First Adventure – Tamora Pierce, 1984 – George Orwell

Unapologetic Fangirl For:

Serious Fangirl for Susan Ee’s trilogy – Penryn and the End of Days, I love it.

Very Excited For This Release More Than All The Others:

The third book in the Penryn and the End of Days trilogy – duh.

Worst Bookish Habit:

I hate people who leave books with open spines, and turn corners of pages. I have become one of those people.

X Marks The Spot: Start at the top left of your shelf and pick the 27th book:

The Ruby in the Smoke – Phillip Pullhman

Your latest book purchase:

The Colour Purple – by Alice Walker

ZZZ-snatcher book (last book that kept you up WAY late):

The one I’m currently reading – Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb
